Synopsis: Upon learning that his father has been kidnapped, Austin Powers must travel to 1975 and defeat the aptly-named villain Goldmember - who is working with Dr. Evil.

Reaction: The series continues to get increasingly crass, though there are still moments and gags that work. But it kinda feels like the series is losing steam and direction as this one winds up.

Personal Rating: 5/10

Random Trivia For This Title:

  • An early teaser trailer was made with original footage of Mini-Austin that parodied the opening of Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.
  • Mike Myers has said that his glasses in all three films are meant to look like those worn by Michael Caine in The Ipcress File, so Caine took the original glasses (model "Teviot 74" by UK Optical) to the set and wore them as Nigel.
  • Michael York and Michael Caine, both veteran English actors with over 100 films each to his credit, had never worked on a film together before this one.
  • Katie Couric Cameo: Cop who says, "Time's Up," when Frau Farbissina is visiting Dr. Evil.
  • Seth Green claims that the sequence at the end showing him dancing around Dr. Evil's lair was not scripted; he said he was fooling around between takes and his hijinks were caught on film and the director decided to include it in the movie.
  • Heather Graham reprised her role as Felicity Shagwell in a scene that was ultimately cut. Will Ferrell reprised his role of Mustafa in another deleted scene in which he has to answer a question after being asked four times.
  • Sean Connery was considered to play Nigel Powers.
  • Series trademark: Burt Bacharach cameo. This time, however, he only appears during the closing credits.

  • All promotional material (including online trailers) bearing the movie's original title, Austin Powers in Goldmember, was withdrawn in late January 2002. MGM and Danjaq, who control the [James Bond] license, obtained a cease-and-desist order from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) arbitration panel on the grounds that New Line was attempting to trade on the [James Bond] franchise without authorization. The matter went to arbitration and the film was known briefly as "The third installment of Austin Powers" until the matter was settled on 11 April 2002. MGM agreed that New Line could use the original Goldmember title on condition that it had approval of any future titles that parodied existing [Bond] titles. New Line also had to agree to show the trailer for the new MGM [James Bond] film, Die Another Day with Goldmember.
