  • Krill: When Malloy is stabbed in the leg he exclaims "Ahh! That's a brand new leg!" In reference to losing his leg and regenerating it because of a practical joke.
  • The majority of season 1 was directed by various [Star Trek series] alumni.
  • In January 2019, Adrianne Palicki (Cmdr. Kelly Grayson) and Scott Grimes (Lt. Gordon Malloy) announced their engagement. And on 19 July 2019. Adrianne Palicki and Scott Grimes announced they were filing for divorce after less than 2 months of matrimony.
  • About a Girl: When Bortus asks Ed and Kelly to quote their home planet's great author, Kelly responds with, "I'm a survivor. I'm not gone give up. I'm not gone stop. I'm-a work harder," from the [?] Destiny's Child song "Survivor." Bortus asks who the author is. Ed replies, "The author is about 15 people." In reality, the credited songwriters are Beyoncé Knowles, [?] Anthony Dent, and [?] Mathew Knowles.
  • Lt. Cmdr. Bortas resembles a Klingon. Bortas was the name of the ship that transported K'mpec in [Star Trek: TNG] and was commanded by Duras.
  • The voice of the computer is Rachael MacFarlane, Seth MacFarlane's sister.
  • Penny Johnson Jerald (Dr. Claire Finn) is the only member of the main cast with extensive experience acting in "Trek-ian" sci-fi. She guest starred in [Star Trek: The Next Generation]: Homeward (1994) before her recurring role as Captain Ben Sisko's main love interest Kasidy Yates on [Star Trek: Deep Space Nine] (1993) starting with [Star Trek: Deep Space Nine]: Family Business (1995). Other Orville players involved in the Star Trek Universe: the Seth MacFarlane had appeared as junior engineer Ensign Rivers in [Star Trek: Enterprise]: The Forgotten (2004) and [Star Trek: Enterprise]: Affliction (2005) Scott Grimes had his scenes from [Star Trek: The Next Generation]: Evolution (1989) deleted.
  • If the Stars Should Appear: (Star Trek Cameo) Robert Knepper appeared in [Star Trek: The Next Generation]: Haven (1987) as Deanna Troi's betrothed.
  • Old Wounds: Halston Sage's character Kitan was originally planned to have no eyebrows, so Halston shaved her own off for the role. However the resulting look was received poorly, and for the remainder of the season she can be seen to be wearing false eyebrows.
  • Pria: When Kelly and Alara search Pria's quarters, the background music is an altered, melodically identical version of Star Trek's Klingon theme music.
